Common welding methods for ultrasonic welding

Ø Ultrasonic welding

The welding head (HORN) vibrating with ultrasonic ultra-high frequency, under moderate pressure, causes the joint surfaces of the two plastics to generate frictional heat and instantaneously melt and join. The welding strength is comparable to that of the main body. Suitable workpieces and reasonable interface design are adopted. It can achieve water tightness and air tightness, and avoid the inconvenience caused by the use of auxiliary products, and realize efficient and clean welding.

The design of a typical ultrasonic welding surface must have the following two functions:

1. The tongue and tongue design ensures convenient alignment during the welding cycle.

2. The welding wire is designed to be slender, but there must be enough fusible materials to fuse the welding surface.

The specific design method depends on what kind of workpiece equipment is used for welding. Welding pressure, vibration amplitude and other parameters are adjustable to ensure that the ultrasonic welding head can touch the welding surface and apply pressure. The lower workpiece is the pressure-receiving part and is placed in the bottom mold without moving. The welding head produces high-frequency ultrasonic waves, which makes the upper workpiece heat and vibrate, so that it can fuse with the lower workpiece. After the welding head stops vibrating, the pressure is maintained and the melting position is cooled and formed. The entire welding time is mostly less than one second.

Ø Ultrasonic riveting

Press the ultrasonic super-high frequency vibration welding head (HORN) against the protruding tip of the plastic product to instantly heat and melt into a rivet shape, so that the metal object is riveted and fixed.

Ø Ultrasonic implantation

Ultrasonic ultra-high frequency sound wave vibration, through the conduction of the welding head (HORN) and appropriate pressure, instantly squeeze metal parts (such as nuts, screws) into the reserved plastic holes and fix them at the set depth. After completion, both the tensile force and the torsion force can be comparable to the strength of traditional molding in the mold, and the shortcomings of injection damage and slow injection can be avoided.

Ø Ultrasonic spot welding

When two pieces of plastic are to be welded, due to the conditions of the welded object, it is impossible to open a fusible line. Spot welding can be used. The principle is to use ultrasonic waves to transmit to the front end of the welding head and cross from the upper plate to the lower plate to achieve the welding effect. It can also spot weld multiple points at the same time to improve work efficiency.

Ø Ultrasonic resection

The welding head with ultrasonic high-speed vibration cuts off the sharp burrs of the plastic injection molded parts, and cuts the injection port, so that the plastic original parts are separated from the injection channel in an instant, eliminating the need for manual cutting procedures, and its advantages are smooth and clean without cracking or wire drawing. The materials suitable for ultrasonic removal are ABS, PS, acrylic, PC, plastic steel, etc., such as too soft or elastic plastic is not suitable for ultrasonic removal. (The effect of the plastic material is not good before being cooled when it is just injected)

Ø Ultrasonic forming

Common ultrasonic welding methods are similar to ultrasonic riveting. It is to press the concave welding head on the outer ring of the plastic product, make it vibrate at high frequency, and then melt the plastic and wrap it on the metal object to fix it, and the appearance is smooth and beautiful. It is mostly used for the fixing and forming of electronics and speakers. And cosmetic lens fixation, etc.
