Ultrasonic welding requirements

  • 2021-05-26
The effect of an ultrasonic welding machine is inversely proportional to the modulus of elasticity, coefficient of friction, and thermal conductivity, and inversely proportional to density, specific heat capacity, and melting point. The welding effect of the ultrasonic welder is mainly related to the melting point of the material and the surface friction coefficient. These parameters vary with material and temperature. Different materials have different requirements for the ultrasonic welding machine. The changes of the ultrasonic welding machine during the welding process will affect the temperature, stress and deformation of the ultrasonic welding machine area, thereby affecting the quality of the ultrasonic welding machine. However, the time of the ultrasonic welding machine is very short, and it is difficult to control the change of the parameters in the experiment. Therefore, domestic and foreign scholars use numerical simulation methods to solve this problem. The finite element method is used to analyze the influence of the physical parameters of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in the ultrasonic welding process, and it is concluded that the temperature of the ultrasonic welding machine area is proportional to the thickness of the sample. Different materials have different requirements for ultrasonic welding machines, mainly as follows.

1. The influence of welding material modification

The change of ultrasonic welding machine material affects the quality of ultrasonic welding machine. The addition of fillers such as fibers improves the hardness of the polymer material, which is beneficial to the propagation of ultrasonic waves. Under proper process conditions, adding fillers can increase the strength of ultrasonic welded joints.

2. The effect of roughness on the surface of the material

The higher the surface roughness of the material, the lower the acoustic impedance, the higher the surface energy flow density, and the better the weld quality. Thin film materials with rolling patterns on the surface can obtain higher quality ultrasonic welders. The bonding strength of PP film with a smooth surface has almost doubled.

3. The influence of material overlap width

The greater the material overlap width, the lower the joint strength of the ultrasonic welder. The greater the lap width, the greater the stress concentration at the edge of the ultrasonic welder's joint, the more bugs appear on the edge, and the lower the joint strength. As the welding width increases, the strength of the welded joint decreases.

4. The influence of the welding seam surface and the welding seam distance

When the distance between the surface of the material and the welding head reaches half a wavelength, the joint strength of the ultrasonic welding machine increases.

Plastic ultrasonic propagation is dominated by longitudinal waves, and the peak of longitudinal waves generally appears at half the wavelength. At a distance close to half the wavelength, the ultrasonic will transfer more heat energy to the interface of the ultrasonic welding machine, so as to obtain a good ultrasonic welding joint.

On the HS1000 (allyl phosphate and clay modified polyphenylene ether, half-wavelength 3.86cm) ultrasonic welding machine of different thickness, it was found that the critical thickness is 3.86cm, which is thinner than the critical thickness, and the ultrasonic welding machine joint strength and growth. As the thickness increases, when the thickness is greater than the critical thickness, the joint strength of the ultrasonic welder drops sharply.
